TRS Fennel Seeds (Soonf) are the dried, aromatic seeds of the fennel plant (Foeniculum vulgare) valued for their sweet, anise-like flavor and warm, slightly spicy aroma. These small, elongated seeds range in color from greenish to brown and are commonly used across Indian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines to add depth to curries, spice blends, breads, pickles, sausages and vegetable dishes. Fennel seeds contain natural essential oils, including anethole, which contribute to their characteristic sweet/licorice taste and perfume-like scent. TRS supplies whole seeds that are suitable for use whole, lightly toasted to intensify flavor, or ground into powder for rubs, sauces and baked goods. They are also traditionally used as a palate cleanser and post-meal mouth freshener in many cultures.
How to use: For a simple fennel tea, crush one teaspoon of seeds lightly and steep in a cup of boiling water for 5–10 minutes, then strain before drinking. To boost flavor in cooking, add whole seeds early in tempering or toast them in a dry pan for 1–2 minutes until fragrant before incorporating into dals, curries or vegetable sautés; grind toasted seeds for spice rubs or baked goods. Chew a small pinch of seeds after meals as a traditional palate freshener. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve aroma and flavor.
