Description
Annam Neem Oil is a pure botanical oil derived from the seeds of the Indian neem tree (Azadirachta indica). Rich in naturally occurring compounds such as azadirachtin and other limonoids, neem oil is valued for its broad-spectrum activity against many common garden pests and fungal problems as well as for traditional personal-care uses. It is widely used as a natural insect repellent and biopesticide on ornamental and edible plants, helping to control aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, scale, mealybugs and certain fungal issues when applied as a foliar spray. In skin and hair care, neem oil is prized for its emollient and conditioning properties and has been used historically to soothe and moisturize dry or rough skin, support scalp health and help manage dandruff; topical use can sometimes reduce irritation and dryness for those who tolerate it. Neem oil is biodegradable and has relatively low toxicity to mammals and birds when used as directed, but it can be toxic to fish and aquatic organisms and should not be allowed to contaminate waterways. As with all concentrated plant extracts, some people may experience skin sensitivity or allergic reactions; the oil is for external use only and should never be ingested. Store the product tightly sealed in a cool, dark place and keep out of reach of children; when stored properly, neem oil retains its quality for many months.
For garden use, dilute neem oil in water with a mild liquid soap or an approved emulsifier to help it mix, using a light to moderate strength (for example, roughly 5–10 mL neem oil per liter of water, or about 1–2 tablespoons per gallon) and spray thoroughly on the tops and undersides of leaves in the early morning or late evening to avoid harming pollinators and to reduce the risk of leaf burn in strong sun. Reapply every 7–14 days as needed, more frequently for heavy infestations, and avoid spraying when temperatures are extremely high or when rain is expected. For skin or hair use, always perform a patch test first by applying a small diluted amount to an inner forearm and waiting 24 hours; if there is no irritation, dilute neem oil in a carrier oil or personal-care product before application (start with a low concentration such as 1–5% neem oil in carrier oil or add a few drops to a tablespoon of shampoo) and adjust as tolerated. Do not apply to broken skin, avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes, do not ingest, and consult a healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, treating infants or have known allergies or serious skin conditions.
