Description

Annam Fennel Powder is a finely ground spice made from roasted or dried seeds of the fennel plant (Foeniculum vulgare), commonly known as saunf. It has a warm, sweet, slightly licorice-like aroma and a clean, mildly aniseed flavor that blends well with both savory and sweet dishes. Rich in dietary fiber and aromatic essential oils—most notably anethole, with smaller amounts of fenchone and estragole—fennel powder contributes antioxidants and trace minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium. Traditionally used across many cuisines and herbal systems, fennel is valued as a cooking spice, a breath freshener and a digestive carminative; laboratory studies and traditional use indicate it has antioxidant and mild antimicrobial properties. Used in spice blends, breads, marinades, soups, curries, pickles and desserts, fennel powder offers concentrated flavor with less chewing than whole seeds. In culinary amounts it is generally safe for most people, but because fennel contains bioactive compounds that can have mild estrogen-like effects and can interact with certain medications, individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, giving fennel to infants, have hormone-sensitive conditions, are taking prescription drugs, or have allergies to plants in the Apiaceae family (for example celery, carrot, parsley) should consult a healthcare professional before using it regularly. Store Annam Fennel Powder in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve aroma and potency.

To use Annam Fennel Powder, add a small quantity to taste—typically about half to one teaspoon per serving—in curries, soups, bread dough, spice rubs, or marinades to impart a sweet anise flavor; for a simple digestive or soothing tea, stir half to one teaspoon of the powder into a cup of hot water, steep for 5–10 minutes, then strain and drink warm. For a post-meal freshener or mild digestive aid, a pinch can be mixed with a little rock salt or sugar and taken after eating, but keep quantities moderate and consult a healthcare provider for regular therapeutic use or for use by infants, pregnant or nursing people, or those on medication.
