Agam Tukmaria are premium basil seeds (commonly called tukmaria or sabja) harvested from the sweet basil plant (Ocimum basilicum). The tiny, glossy black seeds swell and form a soft, translucent mucilaginous coating when soaked in liquid, giving a smooth, jelly-like texture that is widely used in beverages and desserts across South Asia and the Middle East. The seeds have a mild, neutral flavor that blends easily into drinks, smoothies, falooda, sherbets and puddings without altering taste. Nutritionally, basil seeds provide dietary fiber, a modest amount of plant protein and small quantities of minerals such as calcium and iron, and they are traditionally valued for their cooling culinary use. Store Agam Tukmaria in a cool, dry place in an airtight container away from direct sunlight to preserve freshness and shelf life.

To use, measure about 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of Agam Tukmaria per cup of liquid and place the seeds in cold water or milk; they will absorb liquid and swell, usually becoming fully gel-coated within 10–20 minutes (longer for a thicker gel). Once swollen, strain excess water if needed and stir the seeds into drinks, desserts or chilled preparations. Do not swallow the seeds dry—always hydrate them first—and keep an eye on young children when serving.
